Weekly Newsletter (10/21-10/25) Hello parents,
Special News: Students will all be participating in the spelling bee. Classroom Bees will be held the week of Nov 18-22. The LES Schoolwide Bee will be held on Jan 17th in the am.
This week in literacy students constructed informational paragraphs based on the book More Than Anything Else. Students continue to use the format of a background statement, focus statement, details (in 2-3 additional sentences) and a concluding sentence (restating the focus statement).
In math we have begun multiplication and division. These topics are introduced through skip counting, repeated addition, arrays (pictures of rows and columns), repeated subtraction, and assorted word problems. Eventually, students will be required to memorize their times tables. When they have mastered 0-10, then we will have a multiplication celebration with ice cream and toppings.
In social studies students are learning about local, state and federal governments. This week we covered the topic of change over time, specifically laws and how they have evolved.
Students have been introduced to elements of the human body in science. This week they dissected owl pellets.
Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing all of the students Monday morning.
Thank you,
Mr. Lee

Homework Students will be assigned homework that will correlate with the lessons that they have been taught for that week. The homework packet will be given to students either Friday or Monday and will be due the following Friday (or last day of that week). It will be the same across all third grade classrooms.
Field Trips Oct 22nd-Oak View Historic Park Dec. 4th-Mordecai Historic Park March 12th-Morehead Planetarium
We are allowed unlimited chaperones for the Oak View Historic Park and Mordecai Historic Park field trips. For Morehead Planetarium, we are allowed up to three chaperones and there is an admission fee of $7.50 (first come, first serve). So far, two parents have already reserved a spot. Parents who wish to chaperone must be a registered volunteer through Wake County. Parents are not allowed to ride the bus, so they must meet us at the field trip location or follow us from the school. Buses for these field trips typically leave around 9:30 from the school and arrive sometime around 10:00-10:15 at the location.
